Compatibility · photo formats

Photo formats supported by PixMedic repair.

The engine supports common photo families rather than JPEG alone. The extension determines how the file is parsed, while success depends on the bytes that remain inside it.

Quick answer

Supported families include JPG/JPEG, PNG, HEIC/HEIF, WebP, TIFF, BMP and common RAW formats. A supported format can still be irreparable when essential data is absent.

Common formats that can be analysed.

FamilyExamplesTypical use
JPEG.jpg, .jpegCameras and phones
Modern photos.heic, .heif, .webpPhones and web exports
Lossless images.png, .tif, .tiff, .bmpGraphics, scans and archives
Camera RAW.dng, .cr2, .cr3, .nef, .arw, .orf, .rw2Original sensor captures

The extension may not match the real format.

A file can be renamed accidentally or exported with a misleading suffix. PixMedic examines structural signatures instead of trusting only the filename. Do not rename a PNG to JPG before testing; that changes the label, not the data.

Different formats fail in different ways.

JPEG corruption often creates bands and lost synchronisation. PNG uses chunk validation and may stop on a damaged block. HEIC and RAW files contain containers, previews and metadata whose survival can differ from the main image. The engine must follow the detected structure.

Prepare a clean diagnostic copy.

  1. Keep the original on its current medium.
  2. Duplicate it to a healthy drive.
  3. Preserve the original name and extension.
  4. Record the camera and event before the failure.
  5. Test the duplicate rather than resaving it.

One photo can be tested online for free, including a supported non-JPEG format.

Compatibility is not a promise of recovery.

Support means PixMedic understands the format family. It cannot recreate bytes that are absent, encrypted or overwritten. Results are assessed individually, and a photo classified as irreparable is not charged.

Frequently asked questions.

Does PixMedic repair only JPEG photos?

No. It supports JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, TIFF, BMP and common RAW formats.

Should I rename a file before testing?

No. Keep the original extension and let the engine inspect the structure.

Does format support guarantee repair?

No. Success depends on the data still present in the file.
